Land with History
The Camino de Santiago going through Navarre is full of historical monuments. In Aragon, the surprising crypt of Leire and the beautiful Santa María la Real in Sangüesa can be highlighted. On the other hand, the route going by Valcarlos goes through Roncesvalles, where we can admire the Colegiata de Santa María, an outstanding example of the French Geogothic style. The mysterious octagonal church of Eunate is a foresight of the union of the two routes, which finally become one when crossing the Romanesque bridge of Puente la Reina and reach Estella, a monumental city where we can see the
churches of San Pedro de la Rúa and San Miguel.
Monumental are also the Castle of Olite, headquarters of the former Court of the Kingdom of Navarre, the Church-fortress of Ujué, the Castle of Javier, the monasteries of La Oliva, Iranzu and Irache, the Cerco de Artajona and the beautiful Tudelan art, fusion of the Hebrew, Arabic and Christian cultures.
